WOMEN & NFTs

A deep dive into decentralized art, aiming to educate, engage and enthral the aficionado and the public at large while decoding the future of art, the Decentral Art Pavilion launches its last themed event: WOMEN & NFTs.

The objective of the exhibition is to generate a necessary dialogue on NFTs and their impact on traditional art and to develop a broader public understanding of decentralized technologies. For this purpose of discussion and dissemination, various topics have been addressed and different points of view included in the past months: generative art, photography, fashion… Last but not least in this arena, a special focus on women could not be missing.

Time and time again, we’re told that NFTs are democratizing the world of art. But a key part is often untold: that this is only true for some. Female artists account for just 5% of all NFT sales in 2021 – an unfathomably small percentage. And yet as the market booms, the problem merely grows. We urgently need a movement to raise awareness, bridge the gap, and realize the utopia: to create a fairer creative world through technology.

The weekend dedicated to Women & NFTs is about this: opening a discussion through the Alternative Space talks and empowering women artists through a dedicated exhibition.

The talks are designed for open discussion and creative optimism: putting the future of female digital artists at the front and centre of the conversation as the future isn’t something we accept, but something we create. The scope is to build a future based on equality, mentorship, and representation for all, and encourage as many people as possible to go in the same direction. The debate will unfold in various Alternative Space talks taking place from June 6 to 11.

The debate will unfold in different Alternative Space talks taking place from June 6 to 11, while over the weekend the exhibition will shift from “Singularity” to a special focus on women artists and NFTs.

Women & NFT Weekend is organized by Florencia S.M. Bruck, Diego Lijtmaer, Javier Krasuk and Simone Furian.

Mitosis Preview at Decentral Art Pavilion
From 5% to fairness: this weekend at Decentral Art Pavilion, AKQA offers a preview of Mitosis – the first NFT collaborative collection aimed to onboard 50 WMN emerging and established artists.

Time and time again, we are told that NFTs are democratising the art world.
Yet there is a key part often left out: that is only true for some.
Female artists account for just 5% of all NFT sales in 2021. That’s unfathomably small. Yet as the market booms, the problem only grows. We urgently need a movement to raise awareness, bridge the gap, and realise the utopia: to create a fairer creative world through technology.
It is with this objective in mind that we created Mitosis, a space for WMN supporting WMN. A space powered by WMN artists, a soon to be announced DAO, by AKQA, and all of the partnering allies like Decentral Art Pavilion.

This project is about empowering a community that is constantly growing and evolving. It is a lively ecosystem that outlives a single stunt, giving WMN the tools they need to succeed: through a community platform, financial support, education, and collective collaboration. We’re spotlighting some of the most established NFT artists alongside some of the most exciting emerging artists to be stronger together. Because together, our impact ripples further.

During Women and NFTs weekend at Decentral Art Pavilion, AKQA is going to showcase Mitosis for the first time, while introducing the first announced artists – Renderfruit, Stasienko and Soulimmix – on a dedicated talk on Saturday 11th at 8.00 PM on Decentral Art Pavilion Twitter Space
